I have few exciting food revelations this week, except Trader Joe's plain, non-fat yogurt makes a good breakfast with some cereal sprinkled over it, and I've been into tea lately, especially Darjeeling tea, the "champagne" of teas...
I like to eat bagels. With cream cheese. Or peanut butter.
Question: Is peanut butter bad for me? I know there is a lot of saturated fat b/c it is solid-like at room temp and then becomes liquidy with some heat. (Palmitic acids...pack together pretty well)
If you put peanut butter (the "natural" kind, not Skippy, which is full of hydrogenated oils) head-to-head with cream cheese, one tablespoon of peanut butter contains 100 kcalories, while one tablespoon of cream cheese contains 51 kcal (from www.calorie-count.com).
Peanut butter has more overall fat (PB 8g vs. CC 5g), less saturated fat (PB 1.5g vs. CC 3.2g), more protein (PB 5.0g vs. CC 1.1g), more fiber (PB 1.0g vs. CC 0g), and no cholesterol (PB 0mg vs. CC 16mg).
The bottom line is that no, 1 tbsp peanut butter isn't "bad" for you; peanut butter contains more nutrients than cream cheese. If you're looking to count calories, though, cream cheese has half the calories of peanut butter.

Problem: I bought Skippy because it was on sale.
Another problem: I pretty much mainly eat peanut butter and cream cheese everyday.
Even worse: when I ran out of apple to eat with my peanut butter, I started eating PB alone with a spoon.
Time to buy more apples.
